SKPSAA Team Principles
SKPS: Grades 1 - 3
As our school has grown so have our sports' programs and we now offer several sports as young as first grade. Our goal is to introduce kids to their sport and to develop all athletes by teaching the fundamentals of the sport. We try to split teams as equally as possible as far as skill level and we also strive to provide equal playing time, so long as the kids fully and actively attend and participate in practices. All sports revolve around students registering for the sport and coaches' availability.
SKPS: Grade 4
The 4th grade program will still be developmental in nature but will have numerous additional offerings:
- Furthering the development of skills and refining playing strategies for offensive and defensive play
- Focusing on the good of the team and creating a team environment
- Focusing on sportsmanship
- Increasing the level of competitiveness
- Maintaining a positive attitude at all times
SKPS: Grades 5 - 6
Once your child enters the 5th grade, this is the formation of our Junior Varsity sports offering. While the program still works on developing our children, it also enters them into more competitive sports. At this age, we engage into competitive diocesan games - scores are kept and rankings are created and shared throughout western Pennsylvania. Due to our size, we typically have multiple teams in this age group and we form teams based on skill level and team needs.
- Continuous development of the student focusing on critical areas
- Maintain and excel in sportsmanship throughout any sport on and off the field/court
- Be a leader at the school for other younger students to look up to as a role model
- Live the Celtic Way - Honesty, Responsibility, Self Discipline, Compassion, Respect
SKPS: Grades 7 - 8
Our JV program has started the grooming process to enter our Varsity sports program in the Diocese Of Pittsburgh. While the program still works on developing our children, it also enters them into more competitive sports with athletes from around the area and intensity increases at this level of play. At this stage, we engage into more competitive diocesan games - and like our JV seasons in the past, scores are kept and rankings are created and shared throughout western Pennsylvania. Due to our size, we typically have multiple teams in this age group and we form teams based on skill level and team needs. We also recognize that some kids plan to continue to play their sport(s) in high school and we begin to prepare kids for the next level.
Our older athletes are expected to set an example both on and off the court/field for our younger athletes and students, becoming role models to each of them and further defining their individual character as a person and part of our parish community.
